WHAT IS CoachElway.org?

CoachElway.org is a website that focuses on the CHILD and the PARENT, the parent and their child (and the player and the coach). It focuses on Baseball, Basketball, and Football – how parents can give their child the ability to play the game, learn the game, and how to coach the game. Coach Elway.com is for the PARENT to learn and teach the fundamentals of the game IN THE BACKYARD with their child! That’s where the “Backyard Series” of personal instructional books were developed. CoachElway.com is a website that provides articles and books to guide, coach and support the correct execution of the fundamentals of the three sports: Baseball, Basketball, and Football. CoachElway.com provides you with knowledge, fundamentals, and instruction through articles and books, and also through “Personal Individual Training”; through “Workshops” presented to your team, league, district, clinics, etc.; and through “Speaker Events” such as athletic banquets, clinics, or workshops.

WHERE DID the IDEA of CoachElway.org come from; and WHO were the books REALLY written for? 

The initial idea for CoachElway.org was really for YOU, the PARENT, and your CHILD. Coach Elway had been coaching baseball for more than 35 years at all levels of the game (from college ball to little league to high school), when three things happened: 1) “Our high school baseball program became the “most sought after” program in the city” (our program became the “magnet school” for all baseball players in our school district); 2) I was asked the question, by a female teacher and friend, “What should we do to start our young son playing baseball? He is three years old and his dad was really anxious to get their son started.” I thought sure. We can write an article to explain what these parents could do to get their son started playing baseball. (We ended up writing a book – 9 BOOKS, in fact, on baseball!) It was easy because during my coaching career, after reading a “coaching book”, I had always created a notebook, which helped me “implement” the new information; and 3) A third thing had an impact on why we (me) started writing the first book, and that was “the VW Commercial on TV” where the father and son are in the front yard and Dad is demonstrating how to throw a baseball to his son (incorrectly – throwing right-handed with his right foot forward!). This spurred me on to investigate this “lack of knowledge about the Game of Baseball” phenomenon – to determine “what knowledge is out there and available for MOM and DAD”, that can provide positive and correct instruction in this simple matter of: “throwing and catching a baseball”. You saw the same problem in the movie: “Sandlot”. What we found out there in the marketplace, for information, was minimal. What we found was written for the high school or the college coach. OK!  So, we were finally convinced that we could write a book to help ALL those “Moms & Dads” out there. Well, here it is! Nine years later and nine (9) baseball books plus two academic handbooks: “Student Success in the Classroom” and “Student-Athlete Scholarship Handbook” later!

 

WHEN DID the idea for CoachElway.org become a reality?

“The Student-Athlete Scholarship Handbook” was started in Coach Elway’s third year of coaching. Many student-athletes received scholarships and played at the college level as a result of this book. The idea for CoachElway.org came with the desire to get the information about Athletics and Academics; and the books about baseball, basketball, and football out into the marketplace for parents and their children. To get this information out there in a simple fashion to maximize the efficiency for the child that wants to improve their “GAME”.

HOW DID CoachElway.corg come about?

The effort to build the CoachElway.org website was initiated by Coach Elway, and several students in his high school business classes, to create a vehicle to allow the Elway Team to get this information out to parents and their children (in addition to coaches and their players). We’ve developed three levels of instruction: The Beginning Level I which is called “Youth Sports”; the Intermediate Level II which is called “Junior Sports”; and the Advanced Level III which is called “Senior Sports”. 

 

WHO IS Coach Elway?

Coach Elway was a “master” teacher and coach. He taught at six different levels: elementary and intermediate school, high school, trade school, college, and university. Successful at each level. Enthusiastic and passionate about what he does. The coach was “all in” in the classroom and on the court or field. He didn’t accept mediocrity. He also attended every high school and college tournament, coach’s workshop, and clinic he could get to. He read every book on the subject he was coaching (that he could get his hands on!) He gives you “expertise” in every book he has written! He read it, he coached it, and he applied it on the court or field; and at every level!

WHO CAME UP with the idea for CoachElway.org?

Coach Elway decided seven years ago that every parent and child (player and coach) needed the knowledge and information are provided by the books and this website. They were interested, so … here we are . . . hope you can maximize your knowledge (and “YOUR GAME”) from this website and read some of the articles and books that are presented here through Coach Elway’s forty-six years of hard work, experience, and expertise. In each book and article on this website, we will provide the knowledge, skills, and drills for you to be successful in your sport. We provide you with knowledge at three different levels: Beginning (Youth), Intermediate (Junior), and Advanced (Senior). We provide you with baseball, basketball, and football. If you want to be successful in your chosen sport, or you have a dream to play college and professional sports, then here you go. Achieve that dream.
